The circular route around the outskirts of the city has been carefully selected so that you can enjoy the beautiful countryside and spectacular views across Bath. In outline it takes in Upper Swainswick, Solsbury Hill, Bathampton, Monkton Combe, Southstoke, Englishcombe, Newton St Loe, Newbridge & Lansdown.
The terrain is mixed – well used paths/public rights of way, limited sections of roadway, flat fields through to hills – well, this is Bath! Part of the route, between the Canal Visitors Centre and The Bathampton Mill, is buggy friendly.
The 5 checkpoints are listed below along with approx. distances & timings from and to the next checkpoint.
Whilst the full circular route is 20 miles (32km), it is broken up into five sections allowing you to choose a shorter walk if you prefer. Detailed route instructions will be given out at any one of the 5 checkpoints on the day. These will be available for both clockwise and anticlockwise directions, allowing you to choose which direction you walk in.
If you prefer not to walk the full 20 miles, a shuttle bus service will operate between the checkpoints allowing you to get back to your start point; making it easy to plan a walk to suit you and your group.
A timetable for this service will be issued before the walk.
